San Francisco is one of the most iconic cities on the planet. This city has several impressive panoramic views, partly due to the distribution and inclination of its streets. Another reason it is famous and known throughout the world is that it is home to the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the most incredible and photographed bridges in the world, which is considered a jewel of architecture and engineering. If you would like to see this beautiful city and love panoramic views, engineering and first class infrastructures, keep reading this article since it will help you on your visit. Travelling to the United States has become much easier, especially if you live in the UK – you only need an ESTA Visa as a requirement to enter Uncle Sam’s country. ESTA is an electronic travel authorisation that can be easily requested online. To help you contextualise and situate yourself in the city before you travel, we have decided to give you a number of recommendations for places to visit depending on the areas in which each place is located and therefore to act as a guide for you. • Centre Some of San Francisco’s most popular tourist attractions are located in the downtown or centre area. These attractions include the areas known as Chinatown and Japantown, since these are the areas where Asians coming from these countries have settled. In the northern part of the city centre, there are a number of hills which lead to the Bay of San Francisco. You can also see Coit Tower and its murals, which is one of the most emblematic places in the city. In the same area, you can also visit Lombard Street, which is one of the city’s most well-known streets and leads to the Italian quarter which is known as North Beach and offers an incredible variety of quality bars and restaurants. Another place well worth a visit is the famous Pier 39. Here, depending on the time of the year, you can see sea lions or go on a guided tour of Alcatraz Island/prison. • South This area is located in the Mexican quarter. Here, you can enjoy the best Mexican cuisine at very affordable prices. Close by is 18th Street which leads to Dolores Park, a meeting place for people to relax and admire the panoramic views of the city centre. To the southeast is the Castro district, which is San Francisco’s gay quarter, and Twin Peaks, which are hills that give an incredible view of the east of this magical city. • North and West In the west of the city you will find a residential area including the Sunset district which, like many other areas of the city, offers an incredible panoramic view. Between 15th Avenue and Moraga is Grand View Park, which also offers fantastic views in a more romantic than touristy atmosphere and you also have the chance to see other places in this area such as the Golden Gate Park. The Haight Ashbury district is the city’s hippy district, so you’ll see lots of hippy-style shops there. To the north you can cross the Golden Gate Bridge, which is considered to be the city’s number one tourist attraction and can’t be missed, because it is well worth a visit, especially for its incomparable views. Finally, after you’ve visited the Golden Gate Bridge, you can visit the City of Sausalito or Muir Woods. The latter is a majestic forest of giant sequoias with hiking paths created for nature lovers. If you hold a British passport, you can now skip the lines upon arrival in the US with the Global Entry Enrollment.
